About Tenth Opinion
You know who you are. It's 1:47 a.m., you have 23 tabs open, and you're building a spreadsheet to choose a toaster. We're rational consumers too. So we gather the professional reviews of each exact model, turn them into one score and show you exactly where the critics disagree. Then you can buy with confidence, or at least with citations, and finally go to bed.
Every score links back to the reviews behind it, so you can check our work.
Why "Tenth Opinion"?
Before a big decision, people get a second opinion. Before you spend real money on headphones, a mattress or a phone, we think you deserve more than two: so we gather the verdicts of the professional reviewers who tested it, often ten or more, and put them side by side. We used to be called Consensus Shopper; the site and the method are the same.
What we do
- Collect reviews from professional publications and a short, hand-checked list of independent testers (5,269 reviews so far).
- Turn each verdict into a 0–100 score, mark the ones we had to estimate (and test those estimates against ratings outlets print), and average them. The full method is on How we score.
- Show the spread: how far apart the critics are, and what they praise and dislike most.
What we don't do
- We don't test products ourselves, and we never claim to.
- We don't count customer reviews, shop reviews, sponsored posts or manufacturer content.
- We don't accept payment for coverage or placement. Store commissions never change a score.
How the work is done
Finding reviews, reading them and checking them is done with software, including AI models that read each review and record its verdict. Every rule the software follows is on How we score, every score links to its sources, and mistakes are fixed and listed on the corrections page.
Who runs Tenth Opinion
Tenth Opinion is independent and self-funded. No publisher, retailer or brand owns it or pays for coverage. One editor sets the rules on How we score, approves every publication we count (all listed on Our sources) and handles every correction; software does the reading, as described above.
